Allan Lutes, 73, of Livingston, Montana, formerly of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, June 25th, 2016. A celebration of Allans life will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 1st, at the Livingston Christian Center. A reception will follow the service in the Christian Center Fellowship Hall. Marshal Allan Lutes was born on July 9th, 1942, in Nashville, Tennessee. He was the son of William Marshal and Estelle (Godsey) Lutes. His family moved around before settling in Chattanooga. He attended Red Bank high school, where he earned most of his credits. He then finished out his high school career at Brainerd High and graduated in 1963. Following graduation Allan entered active military service in the United States Navy and served for a short time prior to a medical discharge. Allan returned to Chattanooga where he was the bass player in a band and at one time played for Jerry Lee Lewis. He eventually joined the Chattanooga Fire Dept. and then followed his heart to join and serve with the City of Chattanooga Police Department. In 1980 Allan was united in marriage to Patricia Skelly and they were blessed with two sons, Marshal Allan Jr. and Lawrence Stephen. They shared 13 years of marriage. Allan went on to serve the Chattanooga Police department for a thirty year career. He retired from their service in 1997. In 1993 he met Gerri Thompson and in 1994 they were united in marriage and later blessed with a daughter, Kylie Jordan. In 1997 they made the move to Livingston, Montana where Allan served with the Park County Sheriffs Dept. as a Reserve Deputy. In 2006 he ran for Sheriff and won; he served in that position for two terms before once again retiring in 2014. Allan was a tremendously gifted man, intelligent and meticulous in his hobbies. He was an experienced gunsmith, a competitive shooter, and a pilot for the Chattanooga Police Dept. Firearms were his passion; he spent countless years learning about them and teaching others in turn. Previous to his election as Sheriff, he worked at Yellowstone Gateway Sports as their resident Arms Expert. His other passion in life was model trains. He specialized in G scale (large) models, and had several replica steam engines in his collection. He built outdoor railroads and model buildings to accompany his engines. Fondly remembered, deeply missed. Allan was a man of great integrity, pride, kindness, and knowledge. His years of service to others will forever be remembered. Allan is survived by his: Wife of 23 years, Gerri Lutes of Livingston. Children, Lawrence Stephen Lutes and his wife Heather of Chattanooga, TN, Kylie Jordan Lutes and her fianc, Austin Lehrer of Bozeman; daughter-in-law, Jasmine Zick and Allans granddaughter, Alexandrea of Charlotte, NC. Siblings, David Lutes and his wife Jody of Lombard, IL and Nancy Peterson and her husband, Ken of Charlotte, NC. Nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. Allan is preceded in death by his parents and his oldest son, Allan, who passed on July 16th, 2015. Arrangements are under the care of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory.
