Alvin Norman Lien, age 69, of Highgate Senior Living in Bozeman, died Wednesday, December 17, 2013 at Highgate Senior Living. A Memorial Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 23, 2 pm, at the Franzen-Davis Chapel in Livingston. Pastors Harlan and Shad Durgan both of Living Hope Church will officiate. Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice. Alvin was born on February 23, 1944 in Livingston, Montana. He was the son of Andrew and Annie B. (Parrent) Lien. Alvin was baptized as an infant, and later confirmed in his faith as a youth. He received his education in Wilsall and was a graduate of the 1962 high school class. Following high school he attended Montana Bible Institute in Billings. He then entered active military service with the United States Air Force serving in Spain for two years. On August 22, 1967, Alvin was united in marriage to Laura Josephine C. Scammon, in Laurel, Montana. Alvin and Laura lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota for two years while Laura earned her nursing degree. They later moved to Missoula where Alvin attended the University of Montana graduating with a degree in mathematics. They shared 38 years of marriage before Laura's passing on October 8, 2005. Alvin stayed in Missoula for a year before moving to Billings and then Livingston for a short time. He had resided in Bozeman the past four years. Alvin's love in life was his wife Laura. He cherished the time he was able to spend with her. Alvin was tremendously proud for the achievement of his forty year sobriety token from Alcoholics Anonymous. He also loved math and finances. He enjoyed puzzles, reading and getting an ice cream. He especially enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. Blessed be his memory. Alvin is survived by his: Sisters, Audrey Winkley and her husband, Jim of Wilsall, Alma Durgan and her husband, Harlan of Livingston and Amy Humason and her husband, Rod of Livingston. Sisters-in-law, Edna Stepper, Maryann Hagen and Ethel Sheehan Many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Alvin is preceded in death by his Parents, Andrew and Annie Lien and his loving wife Laura Lien. Arrangements are under the direction of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory.
