Alvin Levon Nelson 89, of Livingston, Montana passed away on Sunday, October 18th, 2015 at his home with family at his side. Alvin was born September 11, 1926 in Lancaster Minnesota to Albert and Cecelia (Swanson) Nelson. He was born and spent his early life in Lancaster, Minnesota, where he attended grade school. The family moved to Flint, Michigan for his freshman year of high school. They moved to Gilby, North Dakota where he graduated high school. After graduation in 1945 he enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1947. He moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1948 and attended and graduated from Gale School of Telegraph. In 1950 he went to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad as a telegraph operator. He was stationed in Terry, Montana, and then transferred to Springdale, Montana . While in Springdale he met and married, Elvira Dean Gibby, in Livingston. With the end of the telegraph, Alvin went to work for the NPRR as a Brakeman in 1956. He retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad as a Conductor in 1988. He was a member of the American Legion Post #23 and a longtime member of the Honor Guard, a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, and a member of Park County Senior Citizen Center. He was an active volunteer with the Meals On Wheels program. Alvin was a loving husband and father and had many friends. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Dean of Livingston; two sons, Scott (Debbie) Nelson of Livingston, Montana and Roger Nelson of Fargo, North Dakota; four grandsons, Tyler Nelson and Taylor Nelson of Spokane, Washington, Nicholas Nelson of Manhattan, Kansas and Bradley Nelson of Fargo, North Dakota; two brothers, Lowel (Marian) Nelson of Grand Forks, North Dakota and Dennis (Elizabeth) Nelson of Crary, North Dakota; a sister-in-law Sharon Nelson of Larimore, North Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harris Nelson. A memorial service and burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date. Memorials are preferred to Livingston HealthCare Hospice. Arrangements are under the care of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in Livingston.
