She was born to Ellis S. and Miriam Cartwright Bauer on March 23, 1925 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Barbara spent her formative years in the Santa Fe area living with her parents and her paternal grandmother. She graduated from the Brownmoor School for Girls, a private preparatory school near Santa Fe in 1943. In 1944 she married Franklin (Bob) Boyd, an erstwhile Texan. They began their life together in New Mexico. During the course of forty four years of marriage they raised eight children. The family lived in rural areas in order to be able to raise their children with farm animals and pets. In 1957 the family moved to Ennis, Montana where Barbara and Bob lived on a ranch he managed. Barbara cooked for ranch hands while her husband ran the ranch operations. In 1960, the family moved to Bozeman for a few months then moved to the Clyde Park area living there for several years, eventually settling in Wilsall. Barbara was a pioneer in many respects, preferring to birth 7 of her 8 children at home. Being an only child, it was her desire to have lots of children so that they would have siblings with whom to share their lives. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Miriam Moomaw, her husband Bob, her grandson Sean Boyd, infant grandson Ezekiel Hinton, and her great-grandson Steven Jorgenson. She is survived by her sons, Ellis Boyd and wife Rhonda of Alder, MT, Bob Boyd and wife, Debbie of Clyde Park, MT, George Boyd and wife Muriel of Ennis, MT, her daughters, Ann Largent (Steve) of Glenrio, NM, Sharon O'Donnell of Omaha, NE, Kathleen Olivas of Albuquerque, NM, and Adrienne (Tom) Hinton of Wilsall, MT. She is survived by grandchildren, Anna Moomaw Chandler of Florida, Paul Moomaw IV of Washington, Molly Boyd of Oklahoma, Mark Boyd and Raquel Boyd of Montana, Rick Boyd of Kansas , Lisa Boyd Elliott (Ken) of North Carolina, J.B. Boyd (Dawn) of Montana, Renee Largent Beck (Andrew) of Texas, Monica Largent of Michigan, Natalie Largent Vernon (Colt) of Texas, Ryan O'Donnell of Montana, Patrick O'Donnell of Wisconsin, James Olivas of New Mexico, Bridger Boyd (Jennifer), Nathan Boyd (Lauren), Tucker Boyd, Kelci Boyd and Ravyn Boyd of Montana and Samuel Hinton of Montana. In addition she is survived by over 20 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. Barbara was an accomplished horsewoman in her youth competing in horseshows across the Southwest. She loved animals, enjoyed reading, shopping and keeping up with all the activities and lives of her large extended family. She was a good cook, taking care to teach her children about healthful nutrition. She and Bob valued education and encouraged their children to pursue post high school learning opportunities. In her declining years, Barbara came to know the Lord as her personal savior, a fact that she was proud to share. Arrangements are under the direction of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory.
