Byron Douglas Byerly, 68, of Livingston, Montana passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014 at his home in Livingston, Montana. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, October 18, 2014, 4 pm at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory (118 N 3rd Street; Livingston, MT). Byron was born on September 18, 1946 in Williston, North Dakota the son of Sterling Gilmore and Joyce Beatrice (Moe) Byerly. He attended Watford High School and was a graduate of the class of 1964. While in attendance he was senior class president and captain of the football team. He was also the first Eagle Scout in Watford City, ND. In 1971 he graduated from the University of North Dakota and joined the Army. He subsequently went to language arts school in California where he learned to speak Russian. During a break from school he was with friends at a party where he met the love of his life Shirley Ann Strokes. They were married in Salinas, CA on September 2, 1972. Their marriage endured 29 years until Shirleys passing in 2001. In late 1972 Byron was stationed in Germany, three years later he was blessed with a daughter, Heather. He was later transferred back state side to Ft. Riley Kansas; it was a short stay, he was shortly sent back to Germany. He left the military while in Germany and became a civilian contractor for the U.S. Government. When his contract was up in 1982 the family moved to San Jose, CA, then to Virginia and once again back to Germany. This, all while Byron worked as a civilian contractor on hush-hush projects. In 1991, when his contract formally expired he and his family moved to Livingston, MT. He opened a small used appliance store which he continued to operate up until his death. Throughout his life, Byron being a man of great-character, made may lifelong friendships. He loved the "Good Old Time Rock and Roll", gardening, dancing and socializing. There was not a soul that met Byron that didnt love him. Byron is survived by his mother, Joyce, two brothers, Rex and Clyde, his daughter, Heather and his two grandchildren, Ariel and Taylor.
