Charles A. Chuck Dallas

Charles A. "Chuck" Dallas, 64, of Wilsall, Montana, and longtime member of the Ringling 5, has passed away on Friday, February 21, 2020 with the love of his family surrounding him. A celebration of life in honor of Chuck will be held on Friday, February 28, 1:00P.M. at the Shields Valley Elementary School gymnasium. Reception will follow at the school cafeteria.Charles Anthony Dallas was born June 18, 1955 to parents, Marvin Dallas and Rosella (McElhaney) Hegre. He grew up on the family farm at Canyon Creek and while there he attended a one classroom school up until 6th grade. Unfortunately, his dad passed away in 1964 from Hodgkinss Disease, and Rosie began working at the Legislature in Helena. In 1968 Chuck moved to Wilsall after Rosie had remarried and Chuck quickly made his impact on the town! He graduated Wilsall High School in 1973 and headed to MSU Bozeman where he continued to make memories and graduated with a Finance degree in 1977. One such created memory during college was holding a party at Rosies while she happened to be out of town. Cindy Carr, then a senior in high school attended and made a lasting impression on Chuck. They married in Wilsall on September 23, 1977 and began a whirlwind life.In May 1983 they were finally able to purchase their own piece of property in Wilsall and settled in starting with only a single wide trailer. Piece by piece, board by board Chuck started building each barn, shop, and an addition to the house. He never had any formal training in wood working but was a very skilled crafter. He never really received training on anything, but could always ponder for a day or 2 and construct anything he or Cindy imagined. They had also begun a family that would grow to 3 girls each born 20 months apart. A decision theyve pondered since! Mardy Lynn was born January 1981, Cassie Michael in 1982 and Cody Anna in 1984. Anyone who knew Chuck was well aware that sheep were his favorite. Luckily Cindy shared that passion and they started their own registered Targhee sheep flock with 6 ewes they purchased from MSU in 1978. He pinned it Dallas Sheep Outfit. He started working on shearing crews with his father in law, Jim Carr, in 1985. He saw the need for a better way to handle wool and later started training to become a Level IV wool classer which was probably his most favorite job. He loved good clean, wool but better was making friends with all the sheep people. He traveled all throughout Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon. He steadily built his herd as they were able growing up to 500 head. He prided himself on having fine clean wooled fleeces. They started summering sheep with Paugh Inc then in Bozeman eating leafy spurge in the early 1990s. That lead to many years of tending camp for Marcos and even a couple of summers of sheep herding himself when Marcos had gotten hurt. He started selling rams at the Miles City Ram Sale in 1996 and never missed a Montana Wool Growers convention despite the weather, usually being the worst that weekend.He was also one of the original members of the Ringling 5 which started in 1977. Music was one of his passions. He had a lifetime of memories traveling the country from all corners of Montana to Canada, New York, and Florida with the other "5" entertaining all types of crowds and again meeting more people. He was also active in various organizations promoting the sheep industry through Montana Farm Bureau, Montana Wool Growers, and America Sheep Industry. He spent 20 years custom cutting for various ranches in the White Sulphur Springs area leaving yet another lasting impression. His favorite, of course, was at Sheep Creek.Even though Chuck wasnt the loudest, he had the kindest soul especially for his dogs. His quiet demeanor, but sparkling eyes of mischief drew people to him. He made friends on every trip he made and thoroughly enjoyed it. Basketball was his favorite sport and he impressed that on his daughters at a young age. From the time Mardy started 5thgrade basketball until Codys last tournament game, he never missed a game. He was very vocal showing his support from the stands.Chuck is survived by his wife, Cindy; daughters Mardy (Karl) Rutledge, their sons Kolt and Kash; Cassie (Glenn) Owens, their kids Dallas and Thomas; and Cody Dallas. His brother Don Dallas and sister Bonnie Dallas.
