Donn James Ross of Dillon, Montana died a hard-fought battle with cancer in the Bozeman Hospital, surrounded by his family at his side on October 5, 2024. He was 84 years old.

Donn was born July 22, 1940, to James A. and Ardis 0. Ross.

On October 15, 1961, Donn married the love of his life, Carolyn Jean Baier. Donn worked as a banker from 1960- 2006. After his retirement from banking Donn enjoyed his time working the Forest Service. During his career they lived in Greeley, Colorado, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Newcastle, Wyoming, Livingston, Montana, Troy, Montana, and after his retirement they settled in Dillon, Montana. Donn was an avid outdoor enthusiast. His hobbies and interests included fishing, fly-tying, cross-country skiing, geocaching, gardening, hiking, camping, family bowling at Christmas, buggy riding, wine tasting, and anything to do with his grandchildren.

Donn loved and enjoyed giving back to every community in which he lived. He was passionate with his volunteer work, which included a myriad of volunteer work in a plethora of church activities. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, front desk volunteer for Barrett Hospital, and gave generously to the Shriners. However, most importantly to Donn was his love of enjoying his family for life.

Donn is survived by his daughter Treva (Richard}, Son, Scott, and his daughter Terri (Gary). His grandchildren Aubrey (Jesse), Aundrea (Beau), Tanner (Brynley}, Michael (Madalen}. Great grandchildren Dillion, Ellis, Clayton, Zoe, Brynleigh, and of course his faithful companion springer Chayrae.

Donn is preceded in death by the love of his life, Carolyn Ross, his parents, Jim and Ardis Ross, and sister, Jeannie Lawrence.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, 2024@ 1:00 pm at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Dillon, Montana. Please join the family for a reception in celebration of Donn's life, at the 1st Presbyterian church, immediately preceding the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers and/or condolences the family would prefer all memorial donations be sent in Donn's name to the Southwest Montana Family YMCA at 75 Swensen Way, Dillon, Montana.

The family would like to personally thank the 1st Presbyterian Church of Dillon and all friends who have reached out to Donn and his family during the most difficult time.
