Dorothy S. Lucas, 85, of Wilsall, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022.
Dorothy was born on December 19, 1936, at White Sulphur Springs, Montana. She was born the daughter of William Short and Elise (Winter) Short. She attended Tip Top School at the Lucas Ranch until fourth grade, then to Ringling and White Sulphur Springs schools. She then married Jack Lucas on April 16, 1954. They lived on the Lucas family ranch until 1962. There they were blessed with three children; Mike, Jackie and Sharon and then moved the family to their ranch on Lower Sixteen Mile Creek outside Ringling. In 1978 Dorothy and Jack moved to Wilsall.
Dorothy used many lifelong skills to work many jobs including carpentry with Kenny Bailey. She was a sheep and cattle rancher through and through, inside and out and up and down. She truly loved the animals. But she was a mom and wife first and best of all. We will never be able to live up to the meals she prepared or how much she enjoyed it. She was creative and a master quilt maker by our opinion. She used to sew her family’s clothes. She was devoted to our community, she loved it here. Dorothy had spent 19 years as president of the Wilsall Senior Center.
Mom you are loved by so many. We love you so much and will keep your spirit with us forever.
Dorothy is survived by her family: daughters, Jackie (Mike) Bergan of Helena, Sharon (Keith) Cavalier of Lakeville, NY; her sister, Marian Schendel of White Sulphur Springs. Her daughter-in-law, Pam Lucas who eight weeks ago laid to rest her husband and Dorothy’s son, Mike. She is further survived by the grandchildren she adored, Gina Woody, Toni Farnes, Will Lucas, Zach and Seth Bergan, Lucas Cavalier; great-grandchildren, Jared and Morgan Woody, Audry Wagner, Renae Farnes, Daelan, Broden, Corbin, and Axton Lucas, Alyssa, Annalese and Paden Bergan, Madison and Hayden Bergan, Maggie, Conor and Owen Cavalier; as well as numerous other relatives.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, Jack; her son, Mike; and her parents, Elsie and Bill Short.
