Dorothy Shifley

Dorothy L. (Collins) Shifley, 69, of Livingston, Montana passed away Wednesday, November 30th, 2016 at her home with her sons at her side. A memorial funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 10th at the Livingston Christian Center, 1400 Mount Baldy Dr., Livingston. A reception will follow the service at the church fellowship hall. Dorothy was born on December 5th, 1946, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Searl Frank and Dorothy Virginia (Crawford) Collins. The family made a move to Entiat, Washington soon thereafter. She received her education in Entiat and was a graduate of the Entiat High School Class of 1966. Following school, Dorothy had ventured to California where she met Richard I. Shifley. On May 15, 1967, Dorothy was united in marriage to Richard, in Huntsville, Arkansas. The couple started their lives together in the Fayetteville area. They later moved to Bremerton, WA. In 1972 they moved to Ryegate, Montana to take over Richards familys ranch; while working the ranch, Dorothy enjoyed her milk cow, Dutch. Dorothy and Richard later separated. She began attending Billings VoTech to obtain her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) certificate in 1991; in December 1993 she graduated. She practiced as a Nurse in the Harlowton, Montana Health Care System for 23 years while residing with her life-companion Mac McMurtry in Ryegate, Montana; during her time in Ryegate she served on the School Board, ran a local meat plant and fuel station and was the high school cheer coach. Above all she will be remembered for the love she gave as a mother to her family; but, also to the children of family members and friends she welcomed into her home and her heart. Dorothy retired from the Wheatland Memorial Hospital in 2014. She relocated to Livingston to be near her family. Dorothy enjoyed shopping for clothing and shoes, loved her car, and kept her lawn and house plants in pristine condition. In Livingston she was a faithful member of the Livingston Christian Center. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends. Dorothy is survived by her: children, daughter, Tondi Cisneros and her husband, Raphael of San Diego, CA and their children, Katie, Nico and Tyler; son, Shawn Shifley and his wife, Machele of Livingston, MT and their children, Michaela, Seth and Kenyon; son, Rick Shifley and his wife Renee of Livingston, MT and their children, Andrew, Jonny, Casen, Shae, Grady and Pearl. Her companion of over 20 years, Mac McMurtry and his family; sister, Sylvia Adams and her husband Neal of Tulsa, OK their children, Tatum and Colin; as well as, her father, Frank Collins of Fayetteville, AR. Many other relatives and friends. Dorothy is preceded in death by her mother, Virginia. Memorials are preferred to Livingston HealthCare Hospice: 320 Alpenglow Ln; Livingston, MT 59047. Arrangements are under the care of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory.
