Douglas Joseph Doug Theis

Douglas Joseph "Doug" Theis, 69, of Livingston, Montana passed away on Saturday, July 29th, 2017 at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. A visitation and viewing, with the family present to receive condolences, will be held Wednesday, August 2nd, at the Franzen-Davis Funeral Home (118 North 3rd St.) beginning at 3 P. M. From the funeral home, at 4 P.M., we will proceed to Mountain View Cemetery for Graveside Committal and Veterans honors. Doug was born on November 8, 1947 in Willmar, Minnesota. He was the son of Joseph and Mary Ann (Folsom) Theis. He received his education in Bird Island, Onamia and Gibbon Minnesota and was a graduate of Gibbon High School, class of 1965. Doug entered active military service in the U. S. Army in 1968 and served his country during the Vietnam conflict. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and a Bronze Star. He received an honorable discharge in 1971. On June 24, 1967 Doug was united in marriage to Judy Jandl at St. Andrews Church in Fairfax, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with three children, Todd, Chad and Tammy. The family resided in Sleepy Eye and Gibbon, Minnesota and later moved to Montana where they settled in the Bozeman/ Livingston area. Doug and Judy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June. Doug was employed farming, in meat sales for Cargill and self-employed at selling landscape rocks in the Big Sky, Bozeman and Livingston area. He was known locally as the "Rock Man". Doug enjoyed wood working, making tables, cabinets and benches. With the help of his family, he built the log home that they have enjoyed living in for the past 14 years. He loved landscaping and in his earlier years horseback riding. He liked to compete in team penning with his sons Todd and Chad. The whole family liked going on trail rides. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Christmas time and birthdays were favorites that were celebrated at the family home on Pony Road. He took special delight in watching his granddaughters grow up and was very close to them. Blessed be his memory. Doug is survived by his wife, Judy, his children; sons, Todd and Chad of Livingston and his daughter, Tammy of Livingston. Grandchildren, Cassandra (Zachary) Vogl of Hailey, Id, Julie Theis of Bozeman, MT Hannah and Hailey Harshbarger of Livingston, MT. Siblings; brothers, David (Terry) Theis of Gibbon, MN, Peter (LeAnn) Theis of Jackson, MN and sisters, Anna Marie (Wesley) Lammers of Silvis, IL and Jean (Jeffery) Hebiesen of Young America, MN and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Ann, his infant sister, Carol, sister, Marilyn and brother, Daniel. Arrangements are under the care of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory.
