Elmer John Delorey

June 23, 1925 — March 28, 2014

Elmer John Delorey, 88, of Livingston, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Frontier Assisted Living Community in Livingston. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 am, Tuesday, April 1, at St. Marys Catholic Church. Fr. Leo McDowell will serve as Celebrant of the Mass. Elmers final resting place will be Calvary Cemetery in Livingston. Fellowship will follow the service at Elmers son Bruces home (82 Wineglass Rd.). + Elmer was born on June 23, 1925, in Boston. He was the son of Elmer and Margaret (Flemming) Delorey. He received his education in Brockton, Mass. As a young man he played football and baseball. He was strong and athletic. Elmer had dreams and those dreams had him joining the Navy at age 15. He served his country during WWII and the Korean War. He served on three separate vessels that were sunk during his tenure in the Navy. He was a gunner and a master welder. He received an Honorable Discharge. On July 16 1949, Elmer was united in marriage to Margaret Ann "Peg" Hyland, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. This marriage was blessed with four children, Bruce, Jeffrey, Maurice and Joan. Elmer and Peg lived in Brockton, Mass and Cherry Hill, New Jersey. They later moved to Livingston to be near family in the fall of 1981. They shared 46 years of marriage. Elmer was a man who had convictions and showed love through perseverance. His boys wanted to play baseball but were not allowed to join a neighboring towns team. He took it upon himself to organize for swamp land to be turned into three baseball fields. He was a strong father, participating in Cub Scouts and president of the Baseball Association. He was always ready to help out his neighbors in distress or just needing help with home projects. Elmer was employed United Association of Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 322 in southern New Jersey as a Job Supervisor. He was the big dog at 5 6". When Elmer entered a room he commanded attention with his straight forward in your face approach. He retired in 1981. Blessed be his memory. Elmer is survived by his: Children, Bruce Delorey and his wife Julie of Livingston, MT, Jeffrey Delorey of Livingston, MT, Maurice Delorey of Colorado Springs, Co and Joan Delorey of Poughkeepsie, NY. Grandchildren, Bruce Jr. Delorey, Christopher Delorey and his wife Anna, Alex Delorey, Peggy Delorey and Micaesha Delorey. Siblings, Barbara Fitzgerald of West Yarmouth, MA. Many other relatives and friends. Elmer was preceded in death by his: Parents, Elmer and Margaret (Flemming) Delorey. Wife, Margaret "Peg" Delorey. Daughter-in-Law Marsha Delorey. Siblings, Joan Bowman, Jack Delorey, Phyllis Hoague, Richard "Dickey"Delorey. Arrangements are under the direction of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory.
