Erik J. Nelson, 39, of Bozeman, passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 30, 2014 at his home. A celebration of Eriks life will be held 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 5th at the Black Bull Golf Clubs Club House (4711 Love Lane). Erik was born on June 28th, 1974 in Harrison, Michigan. He was the son of Daniel and Judy Nelson. He attended Harrison High School, graduating in 1992 and later attended Lake Superior State University and Central Michigan University. Recently, he received a certificate in Food Service Management from Cornell University. Erik resided in Bozeman, Montana for the past 15 years enjoying the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains. Prior to that, he lived in numerous places throughout the state of Michigan, primarily wherever the hunting and fishing were best at the time. Erik was employed at Black Bull Bozeman as the Executive Chef. He had various careers over the years, but upon moving to Montana and taking a job at Chico Hot Spring Resort, he found his calling in the culinary arts. From there he went on to be the Chef at Boodle, Marlboro Ranch, Bucks T-4 and the Sydney Country Club. Eriks passions in life included the outdoors, hunting, fishing, skiing and cooking. He loved to spend time with his girlfriend Andrea, her daughter Mikayla and their dog Trixie. He was parent and trainer to numerous dogs in his lifetime, including: Roxanne, Einar the Viking, Bubba, Jessie, Raider, Herbie and Skipper to name a few. Blessed be his memory. Erik is survived by his girlfriend Andrea and her daughter Mikayla of Bozeman, his parents Dan and Judy of Michigan, his sister Dana, her husband Chris and their daughter Grace, also of Michigan, his brother Jonathon and his wife Debra of Nashville, TN, his sister Tae and her husband Tats of Shimada, Japan, numerous aunts, uncles and many other relatives and friends. Erik is preceded in death by his grandparents Einar and Virginia Nelson and Herbert and Mary Farner. Arrangements are under the direction of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory.
