Frederick Clayton Hartman, 89, of Livingston, Montana, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Caslen Living Center.Fred was born September 26, 1932, in Towamensing Township, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Clayton and Hilda Hartman. He attended school in Palmerton, Pennsylvania, and was a graduate of the Stephen S. Palmer High School class of 1950. Fred entered active military service, joining the United States Air Force on June 21, 1950. Fred served his country during the Korean War before receiving an Honorable Discharge on August 25, 1953. On April 13, 1957, Fred was united in marriage to Shirley Louise Leathers, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Livingston, Montana. This marriage was blessed with five children; Clay, Beth, Bill, Bob, and Becky. Fred and Shirley shared 42 years of marriage.Fred was employed at Mountain Bell telephone company as a lineman. He was responsible for bringing telephone service to many rural areas across Montana. In his later working years, Fred was a switchman for the telephone company, from which he retired in May of 1992. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and a valued Life Member of the Legacy West Pioneers. Fred enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. After retirement he spent time whittling, building picture frames, and working crossword puzzles. He looked forward to the yearly family gatherings. Fred is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Shirley; his parents, Clayton and Hilda Hartman; brothers, Sam and Lloyd; and a sister, Virginia.Fred is survived by his children; Clay (Christy) Hartman of Lolo, Beth (Craig) Daniels of Huson, Bill (Meghan) Hartman of Livingston, Bob Hartman of Arlee, and Becky (Curt) Hall of Emigrant; ten grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; as well as his extended family from Caslen Living Center.A private service will be held at a later date. Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
