George Ralph Stein

July 18, 1933 — June 5, 2019

George Ralph Stein, age 85, of Livingston, Montana passed away on Wednesday, June 5th, 2019. We will honor Georges life with a graveside committal service on Saturday, June 8th, 11:00 A.M. at the Calvary Cemetery, located on Old Clyde Park Road. A reception will follow, an invitation will be made following the service.George was born in North Dakota on July 18, 1933 to George and Clementine (Zander) Stein, the first of four children. George has always been a hard worker and his younger days were no different. He worked the family farm, later he would move to Bismarck, ND where he took work at a service station as a mechanic, he then moved on to an apprenticeship learning baking as a trade. It was while residing in Bismarck that George met the love of his life, and on October 11, 1951 he and Alma K. Moos were united in marriage in Hebron, ND, Almas hometown. They began their lives together working Georges family farm. They operated that business until the opportunity arose to buy, manage and operate bakeries. They owned Home Bakery with locations in Livingston and Conrad, MT for many years. Always the hard worker George would fix up the shops once acquired and served as the head-baker. They later sold the bakery businesses and operated a Motel in Harlowton until 1979 when they returned to Livingston and retired. It was this stage in Georges life when he found a passion that truly fulfilled him. He began attending auctions, purchasing tractors, that were sometimes no more than a box of parts, he refurbished them to perfection and then sold them to collectors. He even kept a couple of his favorite John Deeres, as his family would say, "dad bled green and yellow."George was always a quiet unassuming man, but he had so very much talent. The man could fix anything. He loved to tinker and could find a purpose for the common mans junk. He had a cunning business mentality that served him well in his endeavors throughout life. He enjoyed "meetings" with his companions at the Mint and time spent fishing as well. He could be a jokester at times, wanting to make everyone feel at ease. Watching his great grandkids play in the yard bought him much contentment. He was our steady rock of support, his calm and reassuring presence in our lives will be so missed. George missed Alma dearly following her death in 2016, but we are comforted to know he has found peace and is with mom once again.George is survived by his daughter, LaVern Parisi and her husband, David of Livingston, their children, Kristin (John) Loomis, their children, Kellan and Kase; David John (Samantha) Parisi Jr. his daughter, Elena.
