Harold Eide

Harold Norman Eide, 91, of Livingston, Montana formerly of Fromberg and Billings, passed away on Tuesday, June 20th, 2017. A Memorial Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 23rd, 11 A.M, at the Franzen-Davis Chapel, (118 North 3rd St, Livingston) with veterans honors by the Park Post #23 American Legion. Reception will follow the service at Franzen-Davis. Memorials are preferred to: Shields Valley Bible Church, 405 5th St W, Clyde Park, MT 59018. Harold was born on the Eide Family Homestead, May 10th, 1926, near Roundup, Montana. He was the son of Nels and Elen (Charlton) Eide. He received his education in Musselshell County attending Cline Country School and was a graduate of the Roundup High School. Harold entered active military service in the United States Navy in 1943 and served his country during World War II. He was stationed in the Philippines serving as a stenographer. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1946. When Harold returned he attended Rocky Mountain College in Billings prior to returning to Roundup. While strolling the town in his Navy Blues Harold saw a young lady walking across the street and said, "Im going to marry that girl." In December 3, 1946, Harold was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Johning. This marriage was blessed with two children, Doreen Gaye and Guy Curtis. Harold and Dorothy started their married life in Gage, MT. Harold worked as an oil field rig operator and as a ranch hand. As the family grew they moved to Roundup and then to Fromberg where they purchased farm land. Harold started a ranching and hog operation and in 1953 he began his career with the Northern Pacific Railroad. He retired from the railroad in 1989 as a Switch Foreman. In 1978 they had moved to Billings to be near their son. And in 94 they moved to Livingston to catchup with him again. Harold had always said Dorothy was his soulmate, they had shared 71 years of marriage. Harold enjoyed Montana life. He hunted he fished, he liked to camp. His frequent misadventures traveling the region and the country in his RV; some of which were recorded in history with another hobby which was video recording. He rooted on the Grizzlies every Saturday, volunteered at the Park County Senior Center and was an involved member of the Heritage Baptist Church in Livingston. He and Dorothy were quite the couple out square dancing and round dancing. They were quick on their feet and always eager to go. Harold was a strong man and a faithful man. He loved his family deeply, and was loved so too. His best days were spent with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Harold is survived by his: wife of 71 years, Dorothy. Children and grandchildren, daughter, Doreen Gaye Austin and her husband Terry, their children, Shawn Austin and his wife, Noel, their kids, Camden and Delia; Sharon Austin and her kids, Mercedes, Brandon and Aliya; and Shanon Austin and her kids, Brittney and Angel; son, Guy Eide and his wife Karen and their son, Cole Eide. Many other relatives and friends. Harold is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Don Eide. Arrangements are under the care of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory.
