Harold Robert Marchington

March 3, 1927 — February 2, 2018

Harold Robert Marchington, 90, of Pray, Montana. Harold passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 2, 2018 with his two daughters at his side. A memorial funeral service will be held 3:00 P.M., on Sunday, February 11, at the Shane Lalani Centers Ballroom, 415 E Lewis St, Livingston. A reception will follow. Harold was born on March 3, 1927 on the Norman Family Ranch at Tom Miner Basin, in Park County, Montana. He was the third of six children born to Edward Dewey and Mildred Clara (Norman) Marchington. His grandmother, Clara June Norman served as midwife. In his younger years Harold hopped around, attending Six Mile School in Pray, Mill Creek School and Livingston Schools. He worked on and off at the family ranch. He eventually took a job with the Railroad in the shops. He fibbed on his age to get hired, once they realized that, they decided that was OK because he could fix anything. Harold loved the trains and would once and awhile hop on and take a trip to Billings. Harold also worked in the Park, he was an equipment operator, helping dredge the Marina at Yellowstone Lake and he also drove truck for them. He met a lovely young lady in Gardiner one day. As it turned out it was her birthday and he decided to go buy her a ring, and ask her to marry him. On the first day he had met her! On, Still looking, Harold was married to Margaret Jean Davidson in Billings, MT. They would go on to begin their family and were blessed with four children, Robert, Marlene, Stan and Lorna. They started out living in Livingston. Harold had hitchhiked to Billings and bought his first brand new truck. He started a storied trucking career from there. He hauled everything, anywhere. In 1966, he and Margaret bought their Ranch in Pray and moved the family there. They raised sheep and cows and were wonderful stewards of the land. Harold eventually bought a bulldozer and started hiring out to cut in roads. His tracks shaped many of the communities of Paradise Valley. Harold was a man that could tell a story. He kept your interest, asked, "are you listening" to ensure you got the point, and if you shared with him, you probably heard, "oh, what the hell," a few times You could catch him most mornings at the Pray Cafe chatting and having coffee; the girls there loved him so much that they named a breakfast after him. Harold is survived by his daughters, Marlene Whiteside and her husband, Alan of the Shields Valley, and Lorna Marchington and her partner, Robert Buchanan. Grandchildren, Enar (Kiersten) Rosen, Amos Knight, Robert (Kristi) Knight, Falan (Tom) Barnett, Alandra Knight,(fianc Nate Singsime), Peyton Knight, Nevaeh Knight, Emma Knight and Dane Rosen. Sister, June Durgan and brother, Sam (Gerry) Marchington. He is preceded in death by, his parents, wife, Margaret in 1989, sons, Robert and Stan, and siblings, Wilbur, Hazel Overton and Russell.
