Henry Steckler, 82, of Livingston, Montana, passed away Monday, January 25th, 2016 at the Livingston HealthCare Hospital. Viewing will be held Thursday, January 27th at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home, 118 North 3rd Street; Livingston from Noon to 5:00 P.M. A vigil prayer service will begin at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at St. Marys Catholic Church, 511 South F Street; Livingston. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 29th, 11:00 A.M., at St. Marys Catholic Church. Father Leo McDowell will celebrate the Mass. Graveside Committal and Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Veterans honors will be provided by Park Post #23 American Legion and Army Active Duty Honors Team. Fellowship and luncheon will follow the burial at the St. Marys Catholic School Gymnasium. Memorials are preferred to: St. Marys Catholic School; 511 S F St.; Livingston, MT 59047. Henry was born on August 27th, 1933 in Elgin, North Dakota. He was the 10th of 11 children born to Alexander and Lena (Ehrmantrout) Steckler. He received his education in Glen Ullin, North Dakota. On December 29th, 1952, Henry was united in marriage to Theresa Margaret Kobilansky, in Glen Ullin, North Dakota. This marriage was blessed with two children, son, Randy and daughter, Sandy. Henry and Theresa moved to Glendive, Montana following their marriage. He and Theresa moved to Wahpeton, ND where Henry attended the Sheet Metal Program at the North Dakota School of Science. Henry entered active military service in the United States Army on, May 17th, 1958. He served his country in the 5th Missile Battalion, the 6th Artillery, 35th Infantry Division - APO 35, and as a Missile Tracking Radar Operator. He had attained the rank of E4. Henry was stationed in Germany during his stint in the Army. Following his active duty he remained with the Army on reserve duty. He received an Honorable Discharge on in February of 1964. Henry and Theresa later moved to Livingston, where Henry had been offered work and in 1976 he started his own business, Park Sheet Metal and operated it up to his retirement, and then some They shared 56 years of marriage. Of many of Henrys great talents was his green thumb. He had a small garden that he kept; this small garden out produced most as he and Theresa would end up trying to give anyone they could fresh produce. They enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle. He enjoyed dancing, bowling and throwing horseshoes. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends. Henry was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Livingston. Henry was an honest and hardworking man. His motto was "Always do the job your best the first time and youll never have to apologize for inferior quality". Blessed be his memory. Henry is survived by his: son, Randy Steckler and daughter, Sandy Newby and her husband, Kirk. His grandchildren, Cassidy and Jacob Schaefer, Giovanna Irish and her husband Chase, and Allen Newby. Brothers, Michael, Peter, Anthony (Anna Mary), John (Hannah) Steckler. Sisters, Maggie Hegel and Margaret Harvel. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Henry is preceded in death by his wife, Theresa M. (Kobilansky) Steckler in 2009, and brothers, Alex, Frank, Jake and Joseph Steckler. Arrangements are under the care of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory.
