Jack Emil Birkeland

September 25, 1944 — November 17, 2015

Jack E. Birkland, 71, of Livingston, Montana, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at his home. He has moved on to a better fishing spot in the sky. He was born to Emil and Ruth Birkeland on September 25, 1944 in their home on "L" Street in Livingston. He always said he was booted out at age 7, but his mother disagreed. Jack moved to Billings for a short time, and then Everett, WA before returning to his hometown and purchasing his childhood home to live in again. He was born in the house his father built, and he passed in the house as well. He is survived by his wife Nancy, sons Robert, Frank and Steven their families and children, two sisters, Wilma and Esther, two brothers Elroy and Raymond, and his fishing buddy Maggie the Dachshund. Jack loved to fish, hunt, garden, cook, build anything out of wood and metal, haul giant loads of firewood, and to share that time with his family and friends. His house was always warm and open to everyone. He could glance out his truck window going 70 mph down the road and spot a deer 20 miles away on top of a mountain. You would have to get a telescope out to see it, but it would be right where he said it was. He had a gift for all things growing and living, and always knowing how to make someone smile when they needed it most. He was often in his shop building decorations, furniture, or presents for himself and others, or in the kitchen baking or cooking something amazing. He taught many people to fish, and some even how to set the hook. He was sweet, kind, loving, funny, ornery and teasing. He loved his family and many friends with every bit of his huge heart. He is loved and missed. Arrangements are under the care of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in Livingston.
