James “Jim” Geoffrey Green, 64, USN, Captain, (Ret.), died peacefully in his Paradise Valley home in the early morning hours of January 26, 2024 surrounded by his wife and children after a courageous fight against Glioblastoma.

Born in Duluth, Minnesota and raised in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Jim was the oldest of eight siblings. He attended the University of Minnesota on a ROTC scholarship receiving a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, followed by a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering through the Naval Postgraduate School.

Jim and Sandy married in 1981 and then began their adventure as a Navy family, moving overseas and around the country while raising three incredible children. Jim retired from the Navy after 27 years of distinguished service. Upon his retirement from the Navy, Jim continued his engineering career in facilities and energy management in Minnesota and concluded his career in Montana.

Jim and Sandy found their own slice of heaven seven years ago in Paradise Valley, MT. Jim’s favorite past times included home renovations, tinkering with his 1950’s Ford tractor, beekeeping, camping, brewing beer, lifelong learning, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sandy (Teslow) Green; children Shayla (Vince) Tropiano; Kurt (Sarah) Green; Emily (Matt) Cope; four grandchildren Wesley & Leona Green and Colton & Jax Tropiano; father Geoffrey Green, mother Mary (LaMontagne) Green; seven siblings Kathy (Kevin) Mackin, Dave (Traci) Green, Julie (Don) George, Pat (Tammy) Green, Mary Beth (Chris) Tatarka, Kris (Brian) Johnson, Ann (Andy) Rummel; and many other extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, we invite you to consider a donation in Jim’s name to the Ivy Foundation (ivyfoundation.org), dedicated to finding a cure for brain cancer.

Jim will be interred at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 12:30 pm with a reception to follow.
