James R. "Jim" Logan

July 24, 1942 — October 19, 2021

James R. (Jim) Logan, 79, of Clyde Park, Montana, passed away at home on October 19, 2021. Jim was born in Livingston, MT, on July 24, 1942. He was the son of Edgar & Elsie Logan and has lived in Clyde Park all his life. He was later joined by a brother, Jerry. Jim and Jerry were country kids through and through; roping chickens, riding an old ½ draft gelding named "Tony" and playing Cowboys and Indians. They lived all their young lives in just 3 places all less than 5 miles apart as the crow flies.Jim was never a scholar and only finished school through the 11th grade, apparently spending too much time in Livingston. He married Elaine White on July 24, 1960 in Clyde Park. Elaine was also born in Livingston on July 24, 1942 so they both had the same birthday and then were married on that same day! The marriage produced 3 children - Andrea, Robin, and James E. (JimBo). They lived on the ranch on Cottonwood Creek all their lives. There was no TV, but lots of pinochle and board games kept the evenings alive. It was Jim's joy in life to drive a good team of horses and ride a good saddle horse that had a running walk. He always looked forward to Tuesday and Thursday night roping at the arena at home. Quarter jackpots brought out the best in everyone. Jim also enjoyed doing leatherwork making chaps, breast collars, and all sorts of leather stuff.Jim was a volunteer with the Clyde Park Rural Fire Department, before becoming the Fire Chief. He served as Fire Chief for over 40 years.Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jerry, and brothers-in-law Bill Ripley and Chuck Kittleman. Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elaine of Clyde Park; daughters Andrea (Joe) Sarrazin, of Clyde Park, Robin (Charley) Vander Voort, of Helena; son, JimBo (Chris) Logan. of Clyde Park; grandchildren, Amanda (Garret) Hamm, of Clyde Park, Robert (Myia) Vander Voort, of Livingston, Tyler (Jessie) Sarrazin, of Clyde Park, and Rachel (Laker) Brockel, of Baker; great-grandchildren, Rodie Keyes, Graeson Hamm, Anna Hamm, Everly Sarrazin, Payten Vander Voort, Adelyn Vander Voort, Sawyer Brockel, Parker Brockel, and "Baby" Vander Voort on the way. Jim is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as 4 sisters-in-law Faye Ripley, Nell (Ernie) Bullock, Lola Kittleman, and Pat Logan. In lieu of flowers please consider giving to the Clyde Park Rural Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 289, Clyde Park, MT 59018There will be a Celebration of Jim's Life on Friday, October 22, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at the Shields Valley Community Center in Clyde Park.
