James Robert "Jim" Smith, 72, of Livingston, Montana passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the Livingston HealthCare Hospital. A memorial service was held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, Feb. 24th at the Franzen-Davis Funeral Home, 118 N 3rd St. Livingston. A graveside committal and burial will be held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 1st at the Mountain View Cemetery in Livingston. Veterans honors will be presented by Park Post #23 American Legion and Sergeant Tommy Ray V.F.W. #2154. Please meet at the cemetery.Jim was born on August 3, 1945 in Bozeman, MT to Dan M. and Margaret (Shepard) Smith. He was raised in Livingston and was a graduate of the Park County High School, the class of 1963. Following graduation, he attended Montana State and graduated with a degree in accounting.On June 29, 1968, Jim was united in marriage to Judy Gwynn in Lewistown, MT. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter, Jennifer.Jim enlisted in the Montana Army National Guard, going through basic training at Fort Ord in California in 1966. He served until receiving an honorable discharge on October 14, 1972.He and Judy had made their home in Livingston. Jim began a 20-year career with the railroad out of Livingston, he worked as a welder and fabricator. He retired in 2005. He had lived in the home he and Judy made up until his passing.He was a former member of the Livingston Elks Lodge. In his younger days he hunted, fished, and camped with the family. He still enjoyed fishing, also loved to read, do crossword puzzles and hang out with pals for a drink.He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Parker and her husband, Jake of Maryland. Nephews, John Smith Jr. of Lodi, CA, Todd (Anna) Smith, and Dave Smith both of Livingston, MT. As well as, great-nephews and great-nieces, cousins and friends.He was preceded in death by, his wife, Judy in 1993; parents, Dan and Margaret, and brother, John.
