James H. "Rus" Weigert, 83, of Livingston, passed away Saturday March 1, 2014 at his home with the love of his family, step-son, housekeeper and cat at his side. While sitting by my dying fathers bedside with tears in my eyes, I was startled when he opened his eyes and asked what I was writing, I told him his obituary. He said, "Get ready, Ill dictate. "I lived, I died, the end." Lived he did; with two successful marriages, a loving family, various pets over the years and "bucket list" with every box checked. Rus entered active military service in the United States Marine Corp in 1948, he is a veteran of the Korean War and did seven tours of duty in Vietnam. His career as a U.S. Marine Intelligence Officer specializing in Psychological Warfare spanned over 30 years from a Private with a GED to retirement as Captain. He claimed this career the fulfillment of a dream. He received an Honorable Discharge on December 31, 1978. Rus was born on June 7, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of Henry F. and Marion Weigert. Rus was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. in Livingston, Montana. Rus is survived by his: Step-son, Rupert J. Butler and his wife, Shirley of Spokane Valley, WA and Bob and Wayne Larson. Grandchildren, Jennifer Lessiak and her husband, Daniel and Julie Schoolastra and her husband, Pat. Great-grandchildren, Danielle Lessiak and Desiree Lessiak. Great-great grandchildren, Nevaeh Annalynn Rose Jones. Many other relatives and friends. James is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Marion Weigert and his loving wife Bessie in 2006 and his first wife Winifred Gifford Weigert in 1960. Cremation has taken place at the Franzen-Davis Crematory. No Formal Funeral Service will be held. Memorials are preferred to Stafford Animal Shelter, 3 Business Park Rd; Livingston, MT, 59047, to celebrate Rus perpetual undying love of animals.
