John H. "Jack" Hoyem, age 85, of Billings, Montana former longtime Livingston and Shields Valley resident passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014 at at RiverStone Health Hospice Services in Billings. Cremation has taken place and no formal service is planned. John H. Hoyem was born June 30, 1929 in Big Timber, Montana, son of John and Marge Hoyem. They moved to Park County in the fall of 1934 to a ranch west of Livingston, then to Paradise Valley south of Livingston and then to Rock Creek east of Clyde Park buying the Billie and Dee Cole Ranch. When John graduated from Park County High School in 1947 he went into partnership with his parents on the ranch. On October 22, 1955 he married the love of his life Barbara Lee. They lived in the Clyde Park area where two sons and two daughters joined them. John is survived by his wife, Barbara and their four children: son, Kevin (Denise) Hoyem of Billings, grandson, Bryan (Catherine) Hoyem and great-granddaughter, Aryanna of Houston, Texas, grandson, Andrew Hoyem also of Houston, Texas; daughter, Tami Hoyem, grandson, Jeffery Hoyem of Belgrade; daughter, Wendy (Jeff) Swendseid, grandson, John and granddaughter, Sarah of Bozeman; and son, Todd Hoyem, grandson, Joe of Helena. John had to give up ranching in 1977 due to Farmers Lung. He moved to Livingston where he purchased Park Wheel Alignment & Brake Service operating the business for 14 years. He sold the business and moved to Bozeman and worked for New Holland Farm Implement for 13 years. John battled lung health problems for 50 years and moved to Billings for medical reasons where he spent his final years. John and Barbara loved going to their cabin up in the crazy mountains and spending time with their beloved cat, Penny. John is also survived by family friends, Steve and Linda Jones of Manhattan and Bob and Melissa Adams of Laurel. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Riverstone Health Hospice House in Billings for their excellent care and compassion. Donations may be made to them in Johns name.
