John E. Romey

John E. Romey, 80, of Gardiner, Montana, passed away, Monday, September 5th, 2016 at Livingston HealthCare Hospital. A viewing will be held on Friday, September 9th, from 5-6 P.M. at the Franzen-Davis Funeral Home (118 North 3rd St., Livingston). The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 10th, 2:00 P.M. at the Franzen-Davis Funeral Homes Chapel. The service will be followed by a private family burial at Mountain View Cemetery. John was born, December 26, 1935, in Hot Springs, South Dakota. He was the son of Loy Arthur and Cora Emma (Prickett) Romey. He received his education in Hot Springs and on December 31, 1955 John was united in marriage to Donna Jean Graves-Bahr, in Hot Springs. This marriage was blessed with 5 children, Blake, Ardell, Lorene, Doyle and Glenda. John and Donna started their family in Hot Springs with their first child before moving to Wenatchee, WA where they added three more to the family. In 1962 they moved to Montana and in 1963 settled in Gardiner where they had their youngest. They shared 49 years of marriage prior to Donnas passing on May 1st of 2005. John was a tremendously hard worker and was employed as a construction worker, ranch hand, logger and mechanic. For a time John and Donna owned the Conoco Station in Gardiner. John was a proud dump truck owner and enjoyed a special comradery with those he worked with. He spent many volunteer hours as Fire Chief, Firefighter, and EMT for the Gardiner Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Service. He loved being in the beautiful Montana outdoors hunting and fishing. He had horses in his younger days and always had a tender spot in his heart for them. He liked to read, play Pinochle and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Blessed be his memory. John is survived by his children: Blake (Cathy) Romey of Bozeman, MT; Ardell (Pat) Powell of Pray, MT; Lorene (Joel) French of Manhattan, MT; Doyle (Marsha) Romey of Livingston, MT; and Glenda Romey of Three Forks, MT. Siblings: Ted Romey of Phoenix, AZ and Elva Grisham of Hot Springs, SD. As well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. John is preceded in death by his parents, Loy and Cora, his wife Donna in 2005, siblings Ralph Romey, Vernon Romey, Mildred Marshall and Marvel Burns. Arrangements are under the care of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory.
