Johnny McGee

Johnny McGee, 75, a longtime Livingston resident passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, October 25th, 2018 following a short illness. There will be a celebration of Johnnys life at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 24th, 2018 at the Livingston Elks Lodge, 130 S 2nd St.Johnny was born August 1, 1943 in St. Clair, Missouri. When he was a young child the family moved to Roseburg, Oregon due to the many logging opportunities in the area. He eventually settled in Park County where he lived out the rest of his adventurous life!Johnny married Joette (Petrich) in December of 1962 in Livingston. They had two daughters, Shawna and Colette. They later divorced. In 1981 Johnny married Peggy (Walden).Johnnys passion was the love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was a very accomplished hunter. For over 20 years he operated, with his wife Peggy, Track Outfitter & Guide Service. Most of those years were spent guiding and hunting the north end of the Crazy Mountains on the 71-Ranch. Johnny was very proud of the bull elk that he took during a special season late hunt in Gardiner, that hunt scored a 335 in the Boone & Crockett points. His other great hunting achievement was killing an Alaskan Coastal Grizzly Bear in the Alaskan wilderness in May 1992. He also owned and operated Johnny McGee Backhoe Service for 45 years.Johnny is survived by his wife, Peggy of 37 years; daughters, Shawna (Rick) Myers and Colette (Tom) Merritt of Livingston; Peggys son, Shannon (Doris) Guse; grandchildren, Colby and Leah Guse all of Clyde Park; his brother, Bobby (Mary) McGee of St. Regis, Montana and sister, Pam.Johnny was rough and rugged and feared neither man nor beast! Not even a rattlesnake bite or a plunge through the Pine Creek Bridge into the cold spring waters of the Yellowstone River or an 8 second ride on a "Yak" could make Johnny McGee waver.
