In the ensuing years, Lorene served as the Rosedale School clerk and taught spring Kindergarten at Pine Creek School from 1969 to 1983, creating long lasting bonds with many of her students. Lorene and Jack recorded the weather for the National Weather Service for 38 years, and as a result of their service, were honored with John Campanius Holm award from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Lorene was a beloved member of Pine Creek United Methodist Church and active in United Methodist Women. She was a member of American Association of University Women. Lorene and Jack were ballroom dancers and members of Saddle Club and Friday Night Dance Club. Lorene loved and was loved by her husband Jack and her family, made sure the coffee was always on and the door was always open.
