Marcella E. Bernethy

August 27, 1924 — May 24, 2021

Marcella Elizabeth Bernethy, Gardiner, Montana; formerly of Saginaw, Michigan. Loving mother and grandmother, passed away Monday, May 24, 2021. Age 96 years. Daughter of the late Julian and Elizabeth (Kretz) Liskow, Marcella was born August 27, 1924 in Saginaw, Michigan. She attended S.S. Peter and Paul School where she graduated in June of 1942. Ironically and of historical interest, the night of her graduation was the first scheduled black out for the city of Saginaw as preparation for war as the U.S. became more engaged in WWII. On September 21, 1946, Marcella married the love of her life, William Bernethy, and the shared 50 years of laughter and happiness while raising five children. Marcella's life revolved around family, friendship and her Catholic faith. These relationships were the very core of her existence and her greatest joy was providing food for family, celebrations and events.Marcella was a homemaker, devoted mother and grandmother. William and Marcella raised five children, William (Kathy) Bernethy, Bradenton, Florida; Timothy (Lisa) Bernethy, Gardiner, Montana; Julianne (Hannibal) Anderson, Emigrant, Montana; Patrick (Jan) Bernethy, Wellsboro, Pennsylvania; Matthew Bernethy (deceased); ten grandchildren, Julie Anderson, Jessica Anderson Mayo, Erin Pettijohn, Kyle Bernethy, Jill Bernethy, Annie Hondorf, Will Freland, Andrew Anderson, Malou Anderson and Daniel Anderson; and 13 great-grandchildren. Marcella was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill; her son, Matthew Bernethy; and her granddaughter, Jill Bernethy.Funeral Liturgy took place 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2021 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Rd., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Dale Orlik officiated, and burial followed in St. Andrew Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Livingston Healthcare Hospice or St. Jude Children's Hospital. Marcella's final wishes are for families and friends to celebrate life, laugh with each other and honor their time together with nourishing home cooked meals as she was a strong proponent of the value of family gathering at dinner. We invite you to share a meal with loved ones and raise a glass in Marcella's honor!
