Marlie L. Askin

Marlie Loraine LaBree Askin was born on May 24, 1930, in Ismay, Montana, to Frank and Olive Charlotte “Lottie” Mulkey LaBree. She passed away peacefully on December 19, 2023, at the age of 93 in Billings, Montana, with her family at her side.  She attended schools in the Ismay and Ekalaka area graduating from Carter County High School in 1948.

She married Alvah O. “Chub” Askin on October 16, 1950. They built their life together in Miles City, Montana, Glendo, Wyoming, and Las Vegas, Nevada. They moved to Livingston, Montana in 1964 and owned and operated ranches in Paradise Valley before settling on the ranch on Billman Creek west of Livingston in 1973, where they lived for over fifty years raising Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racehorses. She resided on the family ranch until August 2023 when she moved to Sweetwater Retirement Center in Billings, Montana.

Marlie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church for over sixty years. She was also a member of PEO Chapter AP.

Marlie was preceded in death by her husband Chub in 2018; her parents; sister, Rosalie Askin and brother, Frank LaBree.

She is survived by her daughters; Laurel (John) O’Rourke of Sheridan, Montana; Coralie (Gary) Carter of Big Timber, Montana and Sydney (Robert) McCue of Missoula, Montana. She has six grandchildren: Toby O’Rourke (DJ Clark), Dani (Michael) Morris, Taralie (Jason) Ballard, Andy (Lezah) Carter, Scott (Amee) McCue, Sam (Amanda) McCue, and 16 great grandchildren: Adalyn, Hudson, Dalton, Dawsyn, Isabella, Michaela, Grayson, Gabriella, Treyson, Lauren, Brynn, Colton, Tanner, Liam, Oliver and Owen. She is also survived by a sister, Janice.

Rosary will be held on December 27, 2023, at 7:00 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Livingston, Montana. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on December 28, 2023, at 11:00 am with a reception to follow.    Interment will be private.
