Martha “Jean” McConaughy, of Clyde Park, Montana passed away on August 21, 2023. She was 91 years old.
Jean was born July 3, 1932 in Pennsylvania. In the summer of 1973, she and her husband, five kids, four dogs and a “tweety” bird moved to Malta, Montana. They lived there for nine months before moving to Livingston.
Jean loved the Rocky Mountains and called them her own. She loved to watch a thunderstorm come in and marveled at the lightning and how the thunder would echo through the mountains. Sunsets were her favorite as well. She would say “They sure have pretty sunsets here.” We have the pictures to prove it! She also loved to hear the elk bugle in the fall and had a “special” straw that she would blow through to call back to them. When they would bugle, she would make sure we all knew they were answering HER! She loved her Pittsburgh Steelers and she loved to wear her Roethlisberger jersey and hold her terrible towel whenever they played. Jean also loved to watch wrestling, Baily and Roman Reigns were her favorites! Watching bull riders was another enjoyment of hers. Many did not know that she was a gifted talent to play the organ. She could not read music, but played by ear. She would ask “What do you want to hear?” Whatever was called out she would play or at least try. She had a song that we all enjoyed hearing; she called it “The McConaughy Boogie!”
Jean was a homemaker for most of her life where she took utmost pride in keeping a clean home and raising her five children.
Jean is survived by her children, Karen of Tacoma, WA; Dave of Clyde Park; Laura (Tim) of Livingston; Janice (Mike) of Belgrade; and Carolyn (Josh) of Bozeman. She is further survived by numerous grand and great grandchildren.
A special thank you to Dr. Henry Pinango for taking such great care of mom as well as the staff at Livingston Health Care Hospital.
She will be missed and remembered by her smile and her blue eyes that seemed to twinkle and the special way she would say Hallowww!!
Per Jean’s request, there will be no services.
