Mary Ann Morningstar, age 85, of Emigrant, Montana, passed away on March 7, 2025. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Mary Ann was born August 29, 1940, in Anaconda, Montana to Lloyd and Dorothy Dann. She graduated from Anaconda Central High in 1958 and from the St. Patrick Hospital Nursing Program in Missoula in 1960.
She married Larry Magone in August 1961, and they had three children, Jeffrey, Michael, and Brendan. Over the next 11 years, they lived in Libby and Whitefish, Montana, before divorcing in 1972.
Mary Ann remarried and spent over 16 years working as an RN in critical care nursing in Missoula. In the mid-1980s she became a member of Church Universal and Triumphant. She spent the next few decades studying and practicing holistic healing methods, becoming Montana’s first board-certified holistic nurse and later a certified metapsychology facilitator. She was the founder of the IAM process, a form of Advanced Integral Kinesiology, and spent her final years working on a book to publish her life’s work.
In her early years, Mary Ann enjoyed outdoor activities such as skiing and tennis, and always had a love for journalism and writing, working for a local paper, and even spending time as a thespian, acting in several local plays.
Mary Ann enjoyed her later years reading and writing, watching a good movie, and cherishing time spent with family and friends, especially during the holidays. One of her favorite autumn activities was spending time in the Grand Tetons.
Mary Ann loved music, from John Denver to Pachelbel's Canon, and had memorized the poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley, which ends with the famous line, “I am the captain of my soul.” She was indeed the captain of her soul.
Mary Ann is survived by her three sons: Jeffrey, Michael (Karen), and Brendan (Vika); and her grandchildren: Samuel, Nathaniel, Christopher, Dayton, and Cambry.
