Mary Louise (Engen) Hogg

Mary Louise (Engen) Hogg, 96, of Livingston, Montana passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017. A memorial funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 1:00 P.M. at American Lutheran Church in Livingston (the corner of South F and East Lewis Streets). The graveside service and burial will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery. Fellowship and refreshments will then be held at the American Lutheran Fellowship Hall. Mary was born on Feb. 9, 1921 in Lennep, Meagher County, Montana. She was the oldest of five children born to Olaf and Margaret (Gaustad) Engen. Mary grew up and received her early education in Lennep and graduated from the Ringling High School in 1939. While attending school in Ringling, she met her future husband. Her additional education was received at business schools in Great Falls and Butte. On January 9, 1943, Mary was united in marriage to Thomas Y. Hogg in Missoula. During WWII, while her husband was with the U. S. Army Air Forces, Mary was employed by Boeing in Seattle and Pacific Metals in Los Angeles. After the war, she returned to Montana and worked as a First National Park Bank bookkeeper in Livingston for decades. In 1974, Mrs. Hogg had become a widow and remained so the rest of her life. Mary retired from the bank in 1982, and then went to work for her sons at Toms Jewelers, a business she and her husband had founded in 1966. She was employed there until age 87, when her eyesight prevented her from working any longer. Mary was a kind, gentle and caring person, who was totally devoted to her family. Her time was spent helping and visiting her parents, husband, children, grandchildren and siblings. She enjoyed traveling and was able to tour much of the United States and Norway. Mary was a member of Orient Chapter #6 Order of Eastern Star and the American Lutheran Church. Mary is survived by: her sister, Mavis (Jack) Haines, her children, Thomas R. (Cindy) Hogg , Alfred (Julie) Hogg, Christine (Les) Arthun ; grandchildren, Erin (Chris) Rankin, Lauren Hogg, Thomas P. (Jessie) Hogg , Stacey Hogg, Robert (Melissa) Hogg, Leif (Lacey) Arthun, Brock (Kelsi) Arthun, Courtney Arthun and her fianc Marc Robitaille; great-grandchildren, William Rankin, Greer Rankin, Jase Deans, Thomas J. Hogg, Michael Hogg, Joseph Hogg, Ethan Haynie, Emma Hogg, Graydin Arthun, Mason Arthun and Tryg Arthun, as well as numerous nieces and nephews other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Owen and Raymond Engen, sister, Alma Press and niece, Sharon Winterburn. Memorials in Marys name may be given to Shriners Hospital for Children or the charity of the donors choice.
