Maynard J. "Babe" Young, age 85, of Livingston, Montana passed away on Monday, January 13, 2020.Babe was born on September 3, 1934 in Belfield, North Dakota. He was the youngest child of Lyle V. and Alice E. (Richard) Young. Babe affectionally earned his nickname from his sister, Inace. When Babe was five the family moved from North Dakota to Montana, they eventually settled in Livingston. Babe was a graduate of the Park County High School and followed his graduation taking courses at Montana State College, now MSU, in Bozeman. He worked a few different jobs including for Yellowstone Park. He had a childhood sweetheart, Nadine McCarthy, and they would go on to be married on February 11, 1956, he and Nadine would have celebrated their 64th anniversary this coming February.Babe and Nadine made Livingston their home and Babe would eventually take a position with the railroad as his father had. He worked his way up to a machinist position retiring when the railroad left town in 1984. Babe was also a gifted gunsmith. He served many area gun enthusiasts and would do the rounds at area gun shows buying, selling and trading for his personal collection.Babe was a hard worker who did all he could to provide for his family. He enjoyed the outdoors, liked to go hunting and fishing and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. We remember Babe walking to work every day, taking the G Street underpass over to the railyards. When he was younger, he enjoyed exercise and was always very fit. Even though you may be gone from us in this world you will forever be in our heartsBabe is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nadine; his children, Denise (Kevin) Hoyem of Billings, Matthew Young of Livingston, and Michael (Jo) Young of Livingston; grandchildren, Bryan (Flavia) Hoyem, Andrew Hoyem, Josh Nierstheimer, Chelsea Hildestad, Jace, Rylan and Kellan Young; great-grandchildren, Connor Steward and Aryanna Hoyem; brother, James Vernon Young; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Young; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.Babe was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Alice Young; brother Richard Young; sister, Inace Spannring and her husband Ray; sister-in-law, Evelyn Young and half-brother, Bryce Young.A celebration of life will be held in the spring, an announcement will be made once plans are finalized.Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
