Murray Ellsworth James Smith was born on July 14, l954-at St Joseph's Hospital in Denver -the 3rd of 5 children, and the only son born to William R and Mary E Smith. He went to Regis and Wheatridge High Schools, where he played champion doubles-tennis, was editor of "The Rag", (an alternative HS paper) and though rarely attending classes, received A's on every test he took. He left shortly after graduation with 'The Morrison Boys' next door, to make their fortune on the Alaska pipeline. Though that totally didn't happen, Murray remained in Alaska for 12 years. He met Brant Robey, a New Englander, got married in Maine and they put down roots in Emigrant Montana. Although the marriage ended, Murrays love for the Paradise Valley and the people remained. Murray lived in the area for 25 years. He operated a one-man construction, handy- man business, which he worked right up to his last day. He was also a DJ at MSUs KGLT radio station for many years and was known as the Reverend Murray. Murray is often remembered as 'the smartest person I ever met'...and when finances and his life-long struggle with sobriety permitted, he was also remembered as "the most generous'. Murray Smith passed peacefully in his sleep, on December 22nd, 2016. He is survived by two sisters, Lynn and Maureen, 13 first cousins, 5 nieces, & two nephews- all with ties in the Denver area. Murray will be missed.
