Nellie Baerg

June 15, 1919 — August 16, 2013

Nellie Baerg, age 94, of Livingston, died August 16, 2013 at Livingston HealthCare with her family by her side. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Nellie's life at a luncheon at the Glasgow First Baptist Church annex on Thursday, August 22 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the food bank or RSVP. Nellie was born on June 15, 1919, in Lustre, Montana. She was the daughter of Peter H. and Eva T. (Becker) Unrau. She received her education in Frazer and was Valedictorian of the High School Class of 1938. She earned a Teaching Degree at Northern Montana College in Havre, MT and taught one year before moving to Washington DC for a job with the Commerce Department. Nellie entered active military service in the United States Navy on August 10, 1944 and served her country during WWII. She received an Honorable Discharge on April 5, 1946. On March 17, 1947, Nellie was united in marriage to Clarence Baerg at the First Baptist Church in Glasgow, MT. They shared 49 years of marriage. Their marriage was blessed with 5 children, Bob, Jim, Peggy, Rich and Shirley. They farmed in Lustre until 1961, when they moved to Glasgow. When the children were older, Nellie went to work at the Glasgow Clinic and then the State of Montana as secretary to the Director of Social Services in Glasgow, from which she retired. Nellie was a member of the VFW in Glasgow and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) in Livingston. Nellie enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards and emailing with her friends and family. She loved to have visitors and to spend time laughing with her friends at Total Fitness. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Blessed be her memory. Nellie is survived by her children: Bob Baerg and his wife Deon of Whidbey Island, WA; Jim Baerg and his wife Laurel of Livingston, MT; Peggy Baus and her husband Duane of Maple Valley, WA; Rich Baerg and his wife Mikelann of Livingston, MT; and Shirley Baerg of Lake Stevens, WA; Grandchildren: Rye Baerg and his wife Adrienne, Cassidy Baerg, Nastia Baerg, Larisa Baerg, Misty Lopez, Don Baus and Dave Baus; 4 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren. Siblings, Ben Unrau of Glasgow, MT, and Ruth Coulter of Columbia, Maryland; Sister-in-law Margaret Unrau of Glasgow, MT; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Nellie is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Eva Unrau, and her husband, Clarence Baerg who passed away in 1996. Also her brothers Henry, Peter, and Toby; sisters Ann, Susan, Eva, and Agnes.
