Penny Jo Batzloff

Penny Jo Batzloff, 70, passed away Friday July 1, 2022 at her home in Gardiner, Montana with her family by her side.

Penny was born on March 17, 1952, in Grand Canyon, AZ.  She was the daughter of Kate Hanner and Cecil Hanner.  Because her father worked for the National Park Service, she spent her early days in many different locations close to national parks.  Grand Canyon AZ, Santa Fe NM, Big Bend TX, Mesa Verde CO, and St Louis MO were just some of the places she lived before her family settled in Yellowstone National Park.  She attended school in Mammoth WY and Gardiner MT and graduated from Gardiner High School in 1971.

Penny married her high school sweetheart, Jim Batzloff, on July 3, 1971.  They made their home in Gardiner and shared 51 years of marriage.  They had two children, Brian and Jenn, and two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Cedar.

Penny worked for Elk Inc when her children were little, and once they were grown, she worked at Rigler Oil and then First Interstate Bank.  She retired from the bank after many years of service to spend more time with her husband.

Penny enjoyed gardening, and always had a full pantry of fruits and vegetables that she had canned.  She also enjoyed many crafts.  Sewing and quilting were two of her favorites, and she made many blankets and quilts for her family.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends.  Many of her years were spent traveling to various sporting events that her children and grandchildren participated in.  She was so happy to get the chance to watch her grandson Cedar compete in the Idaho State Skeet and Trap competition.  She was also excited to watch her granddaughter Kaitlyn compete at the Montana State High School Swim meet. Some of her favorite times were when her grandchildren would visit her in Gardiner.  She loved taking Kaitlyn and Cedar to get ice cream and she took them on many trips in Yellowstone and the surrounding area.  She also loved having coffee with the ladies on Wednesdays and looked forward to it every week.

Penny is survived by her Husband, Jim Batzloff of Gardiner, MT; Children, son, Brian Batzloff (Kim) and daughter, Jenn Batzloff; Granddaughter Kaitlyn Batzloff (AJ); Brothers, Pat Hanner (Deanna) and Scott Hanner (Leona) and sister Peggy Hoppe (Bill) as well as many other relatives and friends.

Cremation has taken place at Franzen-Davis Crematory. No services are planned at this time. Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
