Ray was born on November 28, 1961, in Big Timber, Montana. He was the middle child of seven siblings born to Harold R. and Mary Elizabeth (Cosgriff) Myrstol. In 1966 the family moved to Clyde Park, where he received his education. Ray was a 1980 graduate of Shields Valley High School, and then attended Helena University College of Technology, earning a certificate as a machinist. He also attended the American Institute of Medical/Dental Technologies in Provo, Utah, and then started a dental lab in Bozeman, which he operated for three years. Ray was blessed by the birth of his lovely and artistic daughter Brooke on September 22, 1989, in Livingston. In addition to spending much of his life working in the family logging business, which he loved, Ray worked as a realtor, a horse breeder and trainer, and a well driller. He once owned and operated a restaurant in Livingston. He was an accomplished handyman and troubleshooter who could be relied upon to fix or build almost anything involving mechanics, carpentry, plumbing, and wiring. One of his favorite quotes was "If the women dont find you handsome, they should find you handy." Rays interests and hobbies were diverse and many. He was a people person. He loved Montana, cooking, card playing, reading, history, travel, playing pool, and socializing with friends and family. He never quit learning. Blessed be his memory. Ray is survived by his wife, Carla Scantlebury of Wilsall; his daughter Brooke Butler and her husband, Fraser of Charleston, SC; step-daughter, Ingrid Scantlebury of Bozeman; his father, Harold Myrstol of Clyde Park; siblings, Debbie Bailey and her husband, Tom of Clyde Park; Brian Myrstol and his wife, Debbie of Clyde Park; Lori Younge and her husband, Glen of Bristol, Virginia; Ken Myrstol and his wife, Barbara of Wilsall; Keith Myrstol, JoAnn Flatt and her husband Dean, of Clyde Park; aunts, uncles and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
