Richard Dean Dick Sweeney

February 13, 1934 — May 10, 2015

Richard Dean "Dick" Sweeney, born Feb. 13, 1934 to Harold Dorman and Esther Estella (Mason) Sweeney, left us on May 10, 2015. Dick was the third of four children. He was born at home, in Uniontown, Bourbon County, Kansas. At the age of four, Dick and his family moved to Stockton, California, where he received his education graduating from Stockton High in June of 1949 and receiving his diploma from Stockton College in June of 1952. Dick proudly entered the United States Marines in San Francisco, CA in January 1952 to serve his country in the Korean Conflict. While on leave in February 1954, he married Bernita Wildean Romero. On April 29, 1956, at the rank of Corporal, he received an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Marine Corp., and returned home to his wife and son David, in Stockton, CA. Two more children were born to the union, Sandra and Cynthia. The couple later divorced in 1967. Dick was a Master Electrician, completing his Apprenticeship in 1958, and was a lifetime active Member of the IBEW for 64 years. Over his lifetime he belonged to several different Electrician locals in California and Montana. Dick was always a perfectionist in his profession, and in all endeavors in life, believing any job worth doing was worth doing right, the first time. Dick was an avid outdoorsman and fell in love with Montana on several hunting trips, eventually to move here in 1968 to make Livingston his home. He started his own business, Sweeney Electric, for a brief period, and eventually worked for Bozeman Electric, on the Colstrip power plants in the early 70s. Dick left Livingston for a period of years living in California and Arkansas, only to return in 2005 to be near his daughter, Sandra and son-in-law Mike. Dick had a lust and passion for life, and lived it to the fullest, on his terms. In his younger years he loved boating, water skiing and Trap Shooting. Dick obtained his Pilots license in 1975 and loved flying. Big Game and Bird Hunting with his Labrador retrievers, were passions of his, along with Deep Sea fishing in Craig, Alaska for Halibut and Salmon with family and friends. Preceding Dick in death were both his parents, his older brother Ed Sweeney, and younger sister Mary Patterson. Dick is survived by his daughter Sandy and son-in-law Mike Gordon, his granddaughter Rachelle Bergsing and Papa Dicks Lil Angel, Kira Bergsing, all of Livingston. Dick is also survived by his son David and wife Terri Sweeney of Fallon, Nevada, daughter Cindy and husband Michael Warnock, of Great Falls, Montana and his sister, Shirley King of Elk Grove, CA. Dick is survived by grandchildren Chad, Angie, Brad, Dusty, Christopher and Ian, along with numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and Dick had requested that no formal service be held. Dick was an animal lover and the family has asked that any memorials in his honor be sent to the Stafford Animal Shelter. We will miss you Our Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother and Best Friend. Thank you for all the wonderful memories created with the time we were blessed to spend with you throughout the years. May you continue to always fish the oceans of your world.
