Bob Sones, 78, of Emigrant, Montana, passed away of natural causes October 21, 2021, at his home with his loving wife, Kristi, by his side. He was born in San Diego, CA, and raised in Niland, CA. Bob joined the Navy right out of high school, studying electronics and nuclear power before qualifying for submarine service and serving his country during the Vietnam War. After an honorable discharge, he continued in the energy and alternate energy fields until retirement, successfully managing multiple geothermal power plants in California and mentoring plants in South America. Bob was highly respected in the field of geothermal power.Bob thrived in the outdoors, spending his free time with family and friends, camping, fishing, hunting, dry washing, and exploring. He was a member of the DeAnza Search and Rescue Team in El Centro, CA for many years and was their training officer for several of those years. Bob was a great man, a wonderfully loyal and helpful friend, and a great American. Those who knew him enjoyed his stories about his life aboard the submarines and his many other adventures. He was entertaining and loved by all who met him.He is survived by his wife Kristi; his son, Ryan (Taylor) Sones; and his grandchildren, Pearl and Parker; as well as many other family and friendsA memorial service with Veteran's Honors and spreading of Bob's ashes will be held at the Yellowstone‘s Edge RV Park on Saturday, October 30th at 2:00 PM. A reception will follow at Chico Hot Springs Convention Center at 3:00 PM.
