Thomas Dean Brogan, 83, longtime Wilsall rancher/outfitter, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Livingston HealthCare, after an extended illness. A Celebration of his Life will be held Fathers Day weekend, Saturday, June 18th, 2016, 11 A.M. at the Franzen-Davis Chapel (118 North 3rd Street; Livingston). The service will be followed by a gathering of family and friends at his home on the Shields River. Tom was born January 17, 1933, to Webb and Carey (Bina) Brogan, at his parents home in Odebolt, Iowa, the youngest of 7 children. Tom was one year old when his parents moved the family to a Homestead near Powell, Wyoming where they raised sugar beets and worked to make a living from the harsh land. Toms mother, Caroline, died February 14, 1936, and shortly after another move took them to Colville, Washington where Tom started school. The family moved again in 1937 as Toms father, Webb, had purchased a hardware store in Oakesdale, Washington. In 1939 another move took them to a ranch on Cottonwood Bench near Wilsall, Montana. There, Tom developed a love of the outdoors that shaped his life. He loved to hunt, fish, ride, and roam through the mountains near the ranch. Tom graduated from Wilsall High School, and married one of his classmates, Dolly Jo Kannegaard. Together they worked hard, ranching, farming, and owning a restaurant, Toms store and meat market in Wilsall. Two children were born of this marriage, James Raymond and Pamela Kay. Later the couple divorced and Tom married Hilde Cissel. Toms last and most rewarding profession was his guide and outfitting business, that he still engaged in until recently when ill health forces him to sell the business and retire. He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Swandal of Wilsall; son, James (Chick) Brogan of Wilsall; daughter, Pamela (Mike) Lucas of Laurel; step-son, Greg (Lana) Cissel of Livingston; step-daughters, Iris Hecker of California and Maria Russel of Florida; grandchildren, Gina Woody, Jami Eads, Toni Farnes, Will Lucas and Matt and Craig Cissel; ten great-grandchildren; godson, Tom Balk of Seattle, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Webb and Caroline Brogan; step-mother, Edna Brogan; wife, Dolly Jo; second wife, Hilde; grandson, Jack Brogan; brothers, Pat, Jim, Dick, Bob and Mike; sister, Virginia Markman. Arrangements are under the care of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory.
