Thomas Wesley (Tom) Adsem, age 78, of Livingston, MT passed away on January 22, 2025, at his residence. He was born February 20, 1946, in Butte, Montana, the son of the late Arne and Hazel Adsem.
Tom received his early education in Butte, graduating from Butte High School in 1964. He attended Montana Tech, transferred to the University of Montana in Missoula and received his Batchelor of Arts degree in 1970 becoming a teacher. Tom spent many years as a substitute teacher in Butte.
Tom moved from Butte to Livingston in 1984 to live closer to his sister Ruth Eley and her family. After settling in Livingston, he worked at Ricci’s grocery store for many years and enjoyed his employers, co-workers, and customers.
Tom was an insatiable reader throughout his life and was a regular patron of the Livingston Library. He kept a list of the books he read averaging 65 books each year. Tom loved sports of all kinds taking vacation time to watch March Madness and baseball. He was more than happy to share sport stats with anyone who was interested. A different sort of sport for Tom was keeping track of when the first Christmas advertisement appeared on his TV screen. What started out as a minor annoyance, with ads appearing earlier and earlier each year, Tom turned into sport.
Tom loved Elvis Presley music and made sure to have enough money to buy his next album, standing at the Butte record shop in to be the first one in the door. While Elvis was a favorite, he loved all music, listening most days.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Arne and Hazel; all of siblings, brothers Howard Hanson and Chuck Hanson; sisters Lila (Hanson) Landon, Elsie (Hanson) Swanson, and Ruth (Hanson) Eley. He is survived by nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Tom will be remembered as being a kind, intelligent, quiet man. No service will be held.
