Trena Mahlum

May 4, 1946 — June 30, 2024

San Diego

Trena Lee Mahlum, formerly Trena Lee Phipps, was born in Chinook, MT, to Russell and Patricia (Alice) Phipps. She passed away on June 30, 2024, in Poway, CA, surrounded by her family and holding the hand of her granddaughter.

Trena's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and her passion for teaching. She was a loving mother to her daughters, Tammy and Kathy, and cherished her son-in-law Randy and grandchildren Justin and Ashlin. Her family remembers her as their greatest supporter, always present at their soccer, lacrosse, and dressage events, finding her greatest joy in their company.

Trena's teaching career spanned over three decades, commencing in Bozeman, MT after her graduation from Montana State University. Her journey culminated with more than 30 years of dedicated service in the Wilsona School District. Trena fondly remembered her time at Montana State, where she was an active member of the Kappa Delta sorority and where she met her husband. Throughout her career, Trena's unwavering commitment to education shone brightly, exemplified by her honor as Teacher of the Year—a recognition she cherished dearly even during her retirement years.

Trena was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald. Her legacy lives on through the love she shared with her family and the impact she made in the lives of her students.

The family is grateful for the support of Sharp Hospice and Parkview Gardens.
