March 27, 1943 — November 18, 2014

Valerie Lynn VanBiljouw, 71, of Livingston, Montana passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the Livingston HealthCare Hospital in Livingston. A memorial service, celebrating Val's life will be held Saturday, November 22, 2 P.M. at the Franzen-Davis Chapel. A coffee and cake fellowship will follow the service at Franzen-Davis. Val was born on March 27, 1943, in Louisville, Kentucky. She was the daughter of George Bryan and Frances (Tarvin) Cassell. As a young girl the family moved to Clearwater, Florida to be near her Maternal Grandparents, the Tarvins. She received her education in Gainesville, Georgia and was a graduate of the Brenau Academy and furthered her education attending the University of Tampa. She began her career in the printing industry with employment at Cassins Printing, Honeywell and Greiner Engineering Company. She met her second husband Jack while he was camping with his family in Florida. Once he returned she decided to buy a slug bug and drive on up to Iowa, where Jack lived, to be with him. Val was united in marriage to Seymour Jackson "Jack" Shuman, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This marriage was blessed with one Son, Heath. They lived their lives farming in rural Cedar Rapids. Val came to Montana in 1985, living for six months with her sister Cyn in Bozeman. She met the love of her life, Ren Arie VanBiljouw, they were both employed at the Bozeman Insty Prints Store. They were married in September of 1987. In 1989 they made their home Livingston and helped open the Livingston Insty Prints. They later purchased the location from Mike and Cathy Dawkins. They retired in 1999 and decided to move to Florida. While on the trip south Ren suffered a massive heart attack in Missouri which took his life. The family brought Val back to Montana for some time before she made her way to Florida to reside in Clearwater and then with her sister Vicki in Atlantic Beach. She came home to Livingston in 2010 to live with her son Heath. The last five and a half months she has been residing a Caslen Living Center here in Livingston. Val enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a straight shooter; you always knew where you stood with her and her opinion on all matters. She was a "B.S.er" who loved to have a good time and enjoy a drink and a smoke. In her younger years she was quite crafty with decorations for holidays, sewing and quilting. Blessed be her memory. Val is survived by her: Son, Heath Shuman and his wife, Tanya of Livingston, MT. Her Grandchildren, Victoria, Lara, Brette, Kendrick and Vike. Sisters, Cyn Frye and her husband, Don of Bozeman, MT and Vicki Hartman of Atlantic Beach, FL. Nieces and nephews, Bill, Don, Lee, Melissa, Michelle and Bryan. Other relatives and friends. Val is preceded in death by her Parents, George and Frances Cassell and her loving husband Ren VanBiljouw. Arrangements are under the care of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in Livingston.
